Amylase

Source

Feed‑grade amylase is produced by:

  • fermentation of selected bacterial and/or fungal strains under controlled conditions
  • purification and concentration of the enzyme to obtain consistent activity
  • formulation on suitable carriers (powdered or granulated forms, thermostable variants for pelleting)

Variations

  • Thermostable amylases adapted to pelleting and extrusion conditions in feed manufacturing
  • Amylases optimized for different pH ranges in the gastrointestinal tract of poultry and swine
  • Single‑enzyme products (amylase only) and multi‑enzyme blends with xylanase, beta‑glucanase and protease
  • Products with different activity levels, tailored for premixes and compound feeds

Applications In The Industry

Poultry

In broilers, layers and breeders, amylase is commonly included in premixes or directly in compound feeds based on corn, wheat and barley. In pre‑starter and starter broiler diets it supports faster development of the digestive system and more efficient utilization of starch energy, contributing to improved feed conversion and more uniform growth. In layer diets, amylase helps maintain egg production at optimized metabolizable energy levels, allowing partial reduction of expensive energy sources while preserving performance.

Swine

In swine nutrition, amylase is used in diets for weaned piglets, grower/finisher pigs and sows. For piglets, it facilitates the transition from milk to solid, starch‑rich feed by reducing the amount of undigested starch in the intestine and supporting gut health and growth. In finisher diets it improves energy utilization from cereals, which can help reduce feed cost per kilogram of gain, while in lactating sows it supports adequate energy intake and body condition at an optimal diet density.

Benefits Of Use

  • Increased starch digestibility and improved metabolizable energy utilization in cereal‑based diets
  • Potential to optimize feed formulation (lower energy levels without compromising performance)
  • Reduced undigested starch in the intestine, supporting gut health and more stable feed conversion
  • Flexible application in premixes, compound feeds and supplements for poultry and swine
